The simplest reason for drinking cacao the traditional way is that it feels so damn good!
But better yet is the fact that there are no side effects, no negative consequences, no cost.
Traditional drinking cacao is minimally processed and doesn’t contain white sugar or additives. It is a wholefood and a health food - or should we say drink..
It is one of nature’s true superfoods due to both its many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants but also it’s psycho-productive chemicals.
A cup of cacao is roughly 50% healthy fats and 50% fiber so it is simultaneously a small meal leaving you pleasantly satisfied instead of hungry for more. And then it boosts digestion too.

Cacao contains of more than 300 antioxidants, minerals and natural neuro-productive chemicals.
Xanthine, a natural alkaloid found in cacao, is what caffeine is derived from and they both work as a stimulant to the central nervous system, speeding up the messaging between the brain and your body. It helps brain focus and making us feel alert.
Simultaneously cacao enhances the flow of neurotransmitters like seretonin (maintaining an elevated mood) and dopamine (enhancing motivation and pleasure). This is what gives you that yummy feeling of contentment.
Because a cup of cacao has about 50% fat, when you drink it on an empty stomach it won’t give you that unpleasent shakiness that coffee can do when you feel hungry.
It won’t increase your heartbeat either. It will instead keep you relaxed, content and satisfied for a long time.
The heart opening effect and/or the elevated mood lasts longer than in coffee too.
It does have a slightly dehydrating effect on the body so make sure to drink plenty of water when you drink cacao.
Like with really good coffee that is best enjoyed clean as a black filter- or pour over coffee for the full flavour experience, traditional drinking cacao too is best enjoyed clean. Just water and cacao is our recommended approach once you get used to the drink not being super sweet like the ones you normally get at cafés.
